100% Organic Wool Sleep Sac

Why Sleep Sacs are the Safest Way to Dress Your Baby for Sleep

The Canadian Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (sidscanada.org) recommends that a babies sleep environment be free of bumper pads, toys, and anything other than a very light blanket or a sleep sac.   They recommend that the sleep environment not be too hot or too cold.  Babies can overheat because of too much bedding – making a wool sleep sac the perfect option.  Your baby will likely only need a light sleeper under their sleep sac, however in warmer weather, an undershirt and diaper may be all that is necessary.

A sleep sac also reduces the risk of “rebreathing” – the inhalation of carbon dioxide- which has been suggested to be a possible cause of sudden infant death syndrome.

Why a gurumama Sleep Sac?

The combined benefits of wool and the extraordinary design of our sleep sac make the gurumama sleep sac the safest, healthiest and most luxurious option for your little one!

Our sacks are designed with room to grow and kick, but can not be kicked off so that baby stays comfortable all night!  This design also allows for comfortable use over a sleeper and/ or diaper.

Available in two sizes:

  • 10 lbs – 9 months
  • 9-24 months

The inverted zipper with zipper guards on the inside and outside as well as a zipper pull “pocket” at the bottom are the little extra safety and comfort features that set this product apart.  The inverted zipper makes diaper changes a breeze, prevents accidental pinches and combined with the zipper pull “pocket”; make it harder for an older child to unzip the sac.

gurumama organic wool sleep sacs are sleeveless, which promotes ventilation, temperature regulation and reduces the risk of rebreathing into the sleeve area.

All gurumama products are proudly made, lovingly, one at a time, in Manitoba Canada. They are machine washable and will last through many children. The beautiful design and craftswomanship will make them cherished family possessions.

Why Wool?

Sleep Promoting Humidity & Temperature Control

Babies sweat in their sleep just as adults do (an adult loses a pint of sweat every night!).  Wool wicks moisture (diapers leaks too) away from baby and allows this moisture to evaporate – leading to a more restful and comfortable sleep. Wool is a truly remarkable natural fiber – it can absorb 30% of its own weight before feeling damp! it is warm in cooler temperatures and cool when the temperature is warmer. This is in part due to the fact that wool fibers create insulating air pockets and because wool wicks moisture away, baby doesn’t get clammy, sweaty, chilled or overheat.

Hypoallergenic

Chemical free organic wool is also resistant to bacteria, mold and mildew.

Natural & Organic
People have been sleeping on wool for centuries.  Since the earliest days humans have had a relationship with sheep, knowing the many gifts these wonderful animals provide. Your baby will not be breathing in the off-gasing of petroleum laden materials used in the production of other fabrics! This wool comes from sheep that are not dipped in chemicals, given antibiotics or growth hormones.  The sheep graze on pesticide free pastures and are fed organically.

Naturally Fire Retardant
Wool naturally extinguishes itself when it comes in contact with a flame.  Not to mention your baby will not come into contact with the chemicals that are added to many baby products to make them fire retardant.

Dust Mite Free
Due to the fact that dust mites need moisture to survive and that wool quickly and naturally evaporates moisture, wool inhibits dust mites.  Many other fabrics are a haven for allergy triggering dust mites.

Renewable/Cruelty Free
The sheep that produced this wool are sheared yearly for their wool and no sheep are killed in this process.

THE EASY CARE OF WOOL
Wool is particularly easy to take care of.  It is naturally resistant to mildew, mold, and bacteria.  For the most part air and sun (if available) is all wool needs to clean itself and last for years. Even diaper leaks (if only urine) will be taken care of by simply hanging the sleep sac so that air can circulate.   If soiled wash your sleep sac on the gentle or wool cycle using tepid water (be sure that the wash & rinse temperatures are the same, as drastic temperature changes will shrink the wool).  Always use a detergent specifically formulated for wool, such as rinse free Eucalan as these are lanolin enriched.  Wools natural lanolin gives it its antibacterial, moisture-resistant barrier, allowing circulation of air that promotes dissipation of moisture.  Hang your sleep sac to dry!

Here’s to a wonderful, safe, natural and luxurious nights sleep!

Testimonials:

Poppy loves her sleep sac, as do I! It's very reassuring to have her in something that isn't going to be kicked off or be potentially smothering.

Many thanks Jennifer

Hi Jennifer:

I received the sleep sack today and it is absolutely gorgeous! It is so

soft and made so beautifully, I wish I had bought one sooner. My son goes

to the local Waldorf school here and I will tell anyone with a baby about

these. If you aren't familiar with Waldorf, they put a huge emphasis on

warmth for the young child with wool. Have you thought of marketing these

to Waldorf toy sites? There are many of them and most sell woolen

undergarments for children, your sleep sack would fit in beautifully. I

have a few friends with babies, if the budget allows, I'll be ordering a few

more.

Thanks so much!

Catherine
