Babywearing Safety

Please read this section carefully, failure to follow the “How to Wear” section and the recommendations below could result in serious injury.  Please be aware that your gurumama sling is only material and that you are ultimately responsible for your child’s safety while they are in the sling.

  1. When wearing your baby in the Inward Facing Cuddle, Hip Carry, or Back Hip Carry position always make sure that inner layer of fabric is cupped under baby’s bum to the back of their knees and that the outer layer of fabric is pulled up high on your baby’s back.
  2. Always inspect your sling carefully before use to ensure that the fabric is not worn, does not have holes and that the stitching and seams are secure, do not use your sling if it is in need of repair. gurumama will make repairs due to normal wear and tear for a nominal fee.
  3. Make sure your ring sling is threaded properly – please follow the directions on the site for doing this.  Make sure the entire pocket area is through the rings.
  4. Keep baby away from hot surfaces, sharp objects, choking hazards, etc. Older babies and toddlers may be able to reach dangerous items while in the sling, please use common sense and ensure your child can not reach hot, sharp or otherwise dangerous items.
  5. Make sure that your baby has adequate air flow and that their face is not covered by the material of the sling.
  6. Use caution when carrying items while carrying baby so as not to bump thier body or head.  Also, be aware of baby as you walk through doors and around obstacles.
  7. Support your child and bend at the knees if you are reaching down – this will not only protect your child but your back as well.
  8. gurumama slings are meant for walking – they are not appropriate for running or sports of any kind.
  9. Never wear your baby in their sling in a motor vehicle.
  10. Use the pocket of your sling for items other than the baby that you wish to carry.  The pouch area of the sling should be reserved for the baby and small hand held toys or a light blanket only.
  11. gurumama slings are designed for children up to a maximum of 35 lbs.
